A last-minute decision that I definitely didn’t regret! βœˆοΈπŸ‘£

I made the trip to Melbourne to attend The Lower Limb Conference, and I’m so glad I decided to go.

There was so much knowledge shared by the speakers, and I really appreciated how generous they were with sharing their experience, practical tips and tools that I can actually take back into the clinic and use with my patients.

I particularly enjoyed Dr Ashton Wilson’s presentation on hypermobility, and Josh Butcher’s presentation and workshop on growth-related injuries in children. The practical side of the workshop was especially valuable and gave me lots of ideas to bring back into my clinical practice.

Weekends like this are a great reminder of why continuing to learn and develop as a clinician is so important.

Feeling inspired, full of new ideas and ready to put the learning into practice! πŸ‘£πŸ’‘

On Wednesday night I had the opportunity to attend the Fleurieu Careers Night with Celina from Nurture Podiatry to chat with students about a career in podiatry. It was wonderful to see so many young people thinking about their future and asking such thoughtful questions.

It also made me stop and think about why I chose podiatry in the first place.

I’ve always been fascinated by how the human body works and moves. I’ve loved sport and being active for as long as I can remember, and I knew I wanted a career where I could help people. Podiatry turned out to be the perfect fit.

What I love most is that no two days are the same. One appointment might be helping a young athlete get back on the basketball court, the next could be keeping an older person mobile and independent, treating a child with growing pains, helping someone manage their diabetes, or simply giving someone relief from a painful ingrown toenail or embarrassing fungal nail.

People often don’t realise just how important our feet are until they start to hurt. Our feet are literally the foundation of our bodies, and when they’re not functioning well, it can affect everything from work and sport to enjoying a simple walk with family or friends.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have a career that combines science, problem-solving, hands-on treatment, and the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives every day.

If you’re a student wondering what career path to take, I’d encourage you to consider podiatry. It’s a profession that’s challenging, rewarding, and full of opportunities to help people stay active and live life to the fullest.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand for a chat. Hopefully we inspired a few future podiatrists! πŸ‘£πŸ˜Š
